Vroom Vroom

Formula D is pretty great. G and I played a quick game once we got back from the camp out just to give it a go. We then played a big game Sunday with Lovely Wife's Mom and the whole family. We had a pretty good time. Although G started to lose a little interest about 2/3 through the course. I think selecting gears and optimizing your lane selection might be a touch above him. Although not much. It's definitely a better game with more cars on the track as you really do get to jostle for position and fight for corners and so on. Definitely a fun game and I highly recommend you give it a go. (And there are more tracks you can pick up and beginner's rules and advanced rules and...)

Managed to survive another year of Fathers and Sons camping. The hike wasn't too bad (although the short way down in near dark was not the best of ideas). Breakfast was good. There was absolutely no sleep. I need either a cot or one of those self inflating/deflating pad things. Something...

If you're following E3 at all you're aware of the new consoles coming out and how Sony stomped all over Microsoft in their press conference when it came to privacy rights and consumer rights and a few other things. It'll be interesting to see how things play out once Fall comes and people actually buy the things. And if you haven't seen it, this is hilarious.

McK has started volunteering up at Timp Caves. That's a little fascinating to me. M has had Day Camp for Girl Scouts this week. And G has Day Camp for Cub Scouts this weekend. I think lovely wife thought that Summer would be less busy. She was wrong.

Father's Day this weekend. Too bad Dad is far away. Will have to get him to actually use his iPad and video chat. And maybe play some Ticket to Ride.

Dresden, Dice, Dads, dis and dat

Storm Front by Jim Butcher is the first Dresden Files book. And it's a fun little read. Fantasy noir is probably the best way to describe it. Think detective story by the way of Raymond Chandler and wizard by the way of ... hmm. Butcher I guess. Some of it is the noir aspects, but the wizards in Buther's book are definitely their own little breed. If you liked the series that ran on SciFi (back before it became Syfy) it's definitely worth looking into. Book and show are similar, yet different. Slight tweaks on characters and relationships and so on. The story itself serves mostly as an introduction to Harry's world, but contains a decent enough mystery at the heart of it as well. Someone is leaving corpses with their hearts burst out of their chests. The Chicago PD is a little at a loss and Harry gets called in. Plus he has an actual client. Of the dame in distress variety (see? Chandler all the way).

Cthulhu Dice was fun because of the die. That and it's a little fun to steal your buddy's sanity. Zombie Dice is fun because it's a little more of a game. It's basically Pass the Pigs as seen through the eyes of a zombie. You pick three dice at random and roll them. Brains are points, footsteps are fleeing victims and shotgun blasts hurt. Assuming you don't roll all three blasts, you can choose to pick up the footsteps, add more dice to total three, and roll again. If you get three blasts before you choose to quit you lose all the brains you rolled. First to 13 brains wins. It's fun.

Father's Day draws near. We just had a chance to see Dad, so that was good. I certainly appreciate all the help Dad gives us. It was also nice to just give him a chance to relax this last time with no projects waiting for him. Next time though...

E3 is just about wrapped up and Nintendo has once again managed to convince me it needs more of my money. There are some pretty cool games coming up (Kirby Epic Yarn, Metroid Other M, Epic Mickey, Zelda, the list goes on) but the really cool bit was the 3DS. Handheld 3D device that doesn't require glasses? I'm pretty sure we won't miss just one of the kids... So yeah, it's officially on the list of things the ol' letter 'd' needs.

Summer madness

And so the kids are out of school. Alas poor wife, we hardly knew ye. After the initial, "you are all driving me insane, now GO OUTSIDE!" phase has worn off I'm sure she'll be fine. Once she's applied some sunscreen since they're apparently living at the city pool.

Garden continues to grow, although we seem to have lost some watermelon seedlings along the way. We may have to plant one more just to be safe. Tomato plant seems a little stressed as well. I really need to take another picture so I have proof that we had things growing at one point. ^_^

Monster vol 2 was quite good and the story continues. Looks like Dr. Tenma plans to leave the hospital to hunt after the serial killer he saved. And the police are convinced he had something to do with several new deaths. Ooo tension. heh heh.

I'm currently reading through Cromartie High School volume 1 and let me tell you, it's hilarious. Upstanding student applies to delinquent high school to encourage friend to go to school. Only friend does not make it into said school. Hijinks ensue. Lots and lots of hijinks. There are stories about dominoes and rabbits living with lions and pudding. (And I believe I've made my feelings known on stories with pudding) If you can locate it, read it. Or possibly watch the anime, I have plans to do that as well.

Speaking of anime, Ghost in the Shell: 2nd Gig (or Stand Alone Complex season 2) is excellent. I really like that series. Production IG has done a great job with that world.

In other slightly related news, this week was E3. And there were some excellent Wii related announcements. New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, and some others. If you have a Wii hooked up to the net, I recommend checking out the Nintendo channel and watching the videos. Some great looking stuff. Can't wait for Galaxy 2, I loved the first one. Oh and there's more Wii Sports and Wii Fit and... heh heh, like I said list goes on.

Anniversary was this week. 14 years. 14 long great years. ^_^ Love you honey! This last year was certainly better than the previous, but held it's own set of challenges. We're certainly ready for things to settle down a touch more.

And I believe that's enough. Oh I'll throw this out there. Some of those stories look pretty great. And it's possible to waste a bit of time at that site...
